I'm no sports-handicapper - I'm picking these games straight up for my own entertainment and hopefully for yours. That said, let's get to the picks.
Game 1) Saints over Lions. As of the time of this article - it doesn't look like Calvin Johnson is playing - so I can't pick the Lions without him on the sidelines - he is that dominant. Take the Saints. Game 2) Panthers over Packers - Upset of the Week - Yes, picking against the Pack at home could and very will might come back to burn me. But, as I said - I'm not betting on these games, so it's in fun. That said - The Pack have had trouble in recent years with running QB's and Cam Newton is starting to look healthy again. Pick - Panthers. Game 3) Colts over the Bengals at home - reason - Andrew Luck. Enough Said. Game 4) Giants vs Cowboys - I tried to find ways to think the Giants could challenge the Cowboys - however, it won't happen. Cowboys win this game. Game 5) GAME OF THE WEEK - Niners vs Broncos - This one is tough because the Niners are playing well at the moment. However, going into Denver is a house of horrors. C-Kap will have to play inspired, turn-over free football to have a chance in this game. Can he do it? I don't know if he is quite ready for this type of game. Pick - Denver. That's it for the picks - What do you think? Any games you take the other side? Let me know in the comments section. Tom Brady Throws Three TD's for #Patriots and Chris Jones Blocks Late Folk FG Attempt to Beat #Jets10/16/2014 It was a tough, physical game from the start, just what you'd expect from division rivals - no matter the records of the two teams. The Patriots dearly missed the Veterans - Mayo and Ridley and it showed. They couldn't stop the run and the Jets piled up over 200 Yards on the ground. However, Tom Brady proved just a bit too much for the Jets D, throwing for three touchdowns, including a late score to Amendola that proved to be the game winner. The Jets tried to mount a late comeback, but the game-winning FG attempt was blocked by Chris Jones, securing the Patriots victory.
The Patriots take on the Bears next, after having a few days extra to rest and try to find ways to stop the run with Mayo out for the season. The injury bug has once again struck the Pats. The #SFGiants Advance to 3rd World Series in 5 Years on Walk Off Home Run by Travis Ishikawa #NLCS10/16/2014 Madison Bumgarner didn't have his best stuff tonight, unlike the first 3 starts to this playoffs, but he still went 8 strong innings, allowing 3 runs to be named series MVP when his teammate Travis Ishikawa hit a Walk Off Three Run Home run to send the Giants to the World Series to face the Royals. Bumgarner has a 1.72 ERA in his 4 starts this postseason, the stuff of champions. Madison Bumgarner has been electric in this postseason, with 3 quality starts under his belt already. Can he provide another to send the Giants to their third World Series trip in 5 years?
#SFGiants Overcome 4-1 Hole to Win Game 4 Behind Posey to Defeat #Cardinals 6-4 - Lead Series 3-110/15/2014 Buster Posey had two huge RBI singles and drove in three runs to lead the dramatic comeback victory against the St. Louis Cardinals. After Trailing 4-1 early in the game, the Giants fought back and eventually took the lead, holding on to take a 3-1 lead in the series. Buster truly led the team, both with the bat and behind the plate.
The #Royals Win the Pennant - Reach World Series for First Time Since 1985 with Sweep of #Orioles10/15/2014 The Royals scored twice early and hung on for a 2-1 win to complete a 4 game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles to reach the World Series. The Royals have not lost a game this post-season, running their record to 8-0 - having defeated the Oakland A's in the Wild Card Game and Sweeping the Angels 3 games to none in the Divisional round. It's starting to look like a team of destiny.
Vogelsong takes the ball for the Giants against Miller for the Cardinals in this important game 4 match-up in the NLCS
The #Giants Win by Walk-Off ERROR to Take Game 2 and Hold 2-1 Lead over #Cardinals in Best of 710/14/2014 The Giants struck for 4 runs early in the game and watched St. Louis claw all the way back to even and force the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, a walk, a hit and a bunt combined with a throwing error led to the Giants coming out on top and taking game two. The Giants now lead the series 2-1 in this best of 7.
