Find the entire article HERE.

A Reddit.com user posed the question to Neil deGrasse Tyson: “Which books should be read by every single intelligent person on the planet?”

If you’re looking for a more extensive list of essential works, don’t miss The Harvard Classics, a 51 volume series that you can now download online.

1.) The Bible  - “to learn that it’s easier to be told by others what to think and believe than it is to think for yourself.”

2.) The System of the World by Isaac Newton – “to learn that the universe is a knowable place.”

3.) On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin  - “to learn of our kinship with all other life on Earth.”

4.) Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift – “to learn, among other satirical lessons, that most of the time humans are Yahoos.”

5.) The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine – “to learn how the power of rational thought is the primary source of freedom in the world.”

6.) The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith - “to learn that capitalism is an economy of greed, a force of nature unto itself.”

7.) The Art of War by Sun Tsu  - “to learn that the act of killing fellow humans can be raised to an art.”

8.) The Prince by Machiavelli  - “to learn that people not in power will do all they can to acquire it, and people in power will do all they can to keep it.”

DeSean Jackson released from the Eagles #NFL #eagles #football

The Eagles released DeSean Jackson after a career year and reports indicate the issue may be over gang affiliations. Find the story at The Bleacher Report. Jackson both denied ever having been in a gang and refuted it as a possible reason for being released.

This wild story seems to be gaining steam. Would you want your NFL team to give this player a contract IF the allegations are true?

I'll report back on this story if more facts become available.

Three ideas for the website

3/28/2014

The form and content of the website are still a changing story and I appreciate your patience and all the feedback I've received. Many of the suggestions made by readers I have implemented. I can only do this with the continued support of friends, family and readers.

That said-- here are three content ideas.

1) Game of Thrones fanfic/mashups. I posted a series of these on my blogger to big success and I wonder what interest there is on this site.

2) Articles, reviews, and in general all things Vegas. The column would focus on the sights and adventures tourists can see and experience in Sin City.

3) A new webpage to replace the twitter RP. It will be titled 'Ella's Journal' and contain some of the posts from key scenes in the novel. (Indeed, what is the journal post Ella wrote following the events at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?) The page would be open to all, but password protected for 'joining'. People that wish to RP can join in after they have received approval for their character (whether original or acting a character from Ella's universe). The basic way I can describe this column- almost a 'live' performance of the source material, a rock concert for a writer.

Let me know your opinions on these ideas. What would you like to see on the site? What entertains you?

Hope you hear from you,

From Vegas, enjoy your weekend.

THE COLLECTIVE- more details

3/28/2014

This is a follow up to the top post on my blog- THE COLLECTIVE- a new way to publish.

It's clear from feedback I received from readers of the initial post that I need to do a better job of explaining what my new idea 'The Collective' is all about.

The collective will be the concept of how my publishing company will work. I will seek authors whose works fits with the overall artistic vision of my publishing company - fiction containing a strong, cutting edge voice with an emphasis given to work with bold female, lead characters that will make a lasting imprint on readers.

The second part forms the business considerations. The authors that sign with the collective will be of same mind that the new publishing paradigm has changed and assisting in the marketing of your own work is a must. The writers in the collective will work both independently to promote their own work and join with the other writers to raise awareness for the entire group.

The idea came from seeing hundreds going at it alone. I've seen many that could both fit with the tone of my fiction and form a 'collective' marketing team to help rise the tide and hence will lift all boats.

Another way to explain:

When an author self-publishes, it's a form of starting a business whether or not they go through the technical process of actually paying for a license. The vast majority I've seen do this with very few connections or business associates. What other area of business has this business model? Drive down the main drag of your town/city. One thing that pops out at me--- like minded businesses tend to group together in location. Why don't self-published authors do the same? Combine forces under one tent to achieve the scale lost by not choosing a traditional publisher (though nobody denies that authors must do a good deal of their own marketing even with trad pubs)

I pose the following questions:

Do you see self-publishing as a business?
Does your fiction/music/art gel with what you see on my blog?
Are you of the opinion you will have to market/promote with a dedicated, regular approach to social media?

If you answered yes to these questions, consider the idea of the collective.

Stephen Colbert Tweet uproar spawns hashtag #CancelColbert

A satirical tweet aimed at Asians, which has now been deleted, posted by @ColbertReport has caused a sensation and spawned an effort by angered fans and others to get Stephen Colbert fired with the hashtag effort #CancelColbert.

Read an article that outlines the controversy here at E ONLINE! and a spirited defense of Stephen Colbert at Salon-- the article No, we shouldn't #CancelColbert

First, I did not see the original tweet in question, so I will not comment on it. However, reading over some of the tweets associated with this hashtag, it's clear that a good deal of people in America do not realize Stephen Colbert is a satirist.

Secondly, Stephen Colbert speaks for himself on twitter and doesn't tweet from the @ColbertReport account-- follow him here at @stephenathome for satirical tweets.

Twitter PC police love causing an uproar.

Microsoft released Office for iPad today, which represents a major development for writers. This will allow you to create/edit/share Office documents on the iPad, which will eliminate the need for writers to carry the laptop on certain excursions. This is great news for writers, especially for those that write fiction.

For those with Microsoft Office 365 accounts already, the download from the Apple App store is free. Start working on your content on the iPad immediately.
