The delay is finally over and I have in my possession the FINAL edit of the Ella manuscript! After many fitful starts and stops, hand-wringing and late nights reading the drafts over and over again, there is truly a finished draft.

I would like to thank the editor, Su - she did an amazing job at all points in this business of getting 'Ella' ready for publication. She answered all of my questions in a timely fashion and made me feel confident my novel was in the right hands. To all authors out there in need of editorial services - I can't give a higher recommendation. Check out her editing site here. For those that want to find the site manually, type in

I also need to thank Marielle van Broekhoven - the artist behind the Ella portrait. In a very real way, she helped me fully realize Ella and I can't thank her enough. Please patronize her art. Check out her site here.

or http://www.mariellevanbroekhoven.com/

The process to publication from here is as follow - the formatting for the Word document and converting Marielle's art into a cover are all that stand in the way of an Amazon release. The process is underway and I will provide updates as to the estimated release date the moment I have a better idea of when that might be. I thank all of my readers for the patience shown through the many delays of the publication of this novel.

I certainly hope when all is said and done, the wait will have been worth it. As an independent publisher, my first responsibility is to ensure that I offer a product that matches the quality of the traditional publishers. I've had to proceed at a slower pace due to some of the steps of publication being quite foreign to me. However, I'm quite confident I have the right team to help bring "Ella" to publication.

Thank you to everyone that has helped me, especially the many readers that have been there at every step. There are too many to name, but know you are remembered. Special thanks to Justin Bog for always being an ear to listen and also to Monica Mills for being a constant beta-reader for the Ella material.

Last, the biggest thanks goes to my beautiful wife, Maggie. She has helped me in more ways than I can describe in a blog post. So, I'll simply say - without you none of this would be possible.

Hopefully soon I'll have more news about the novel.

Until then, enjoy your Sunday.

From Las Vegas,

Writing Tip: Role Play Your Characters

8/31/2014

This post on Role-Playing is for all the writers and those that enjoy reading about the process of writing.

Writers ask me many questions, but most of them boil down to: how can I be more productive/write more often? And how can I get more realistic characters?

For me, these two issues can be solved with one very old-fashioned Shakespeare approved method - Act your characters. Or, in modern terms - Role Play your characters. It's a live show for a Jazz musician, the ball-game to an athlete - bringing your character to life will do the following things:

Force you to stay 'in' character and focus constantly on your fictional world. The more time you spend in your world, the stronger and more believable it will be to your readers.

The interactions with others will be story, so just the very act of role-playing itself will lead to fresh writing each day. After a day of interactions, I look through the mentions for plot ideas, dialogue snippets and other useful bits.

Also, seeing how readers perceive your story in real-time (the interactions to the tweeted/posted/Facebook-ed story), gives you a unique theater-like feedback on your fiction you can't get from any other method. Companies pay big money for customer feedback that you as a writer can get in REAL TIME for FREE!!! Think about that again.

Not only will role-playing your characters provide fresh story ideas and constant practice at staying in the fictional world, it will give you instant-feedback from your readers.

I hope this article helped clarify how I use role-playing in my writing process. If you have any questions, do let me know in the comments section.

Have a great evening,

Stephen John Moran

The Rise of Women - A New World Order - or Register to VOTE! #Equality #Women #NewWorld

I've dedicated my writing to this topic as I see it to be the most important issue of this world - The Rise of Women in the coming century. History to this point has been a story of men dominating the world, largely by brute force . However, the very skills that placed men in a position of power over women are becoming less useful in this digital, connected social world. See the article linked for specific examples.

The transition from a male dominated society to one controlled and run by women will not happen overnight and certainly will take many decades to accomplish in certain parts of the world, but make no mistake, this trend is as omnipotent as technology and soon will *be*.

There is something you can do to help this trend. To all the women that visit my blog, I have one message today -

VOTE. Don't talk about it. Register to vote. When Monday morning strikes, if you're not registered, change that ASAP. In America, Men control nearly 80% of seats of elected power, yet are a shade under 50% of the population. This must change. Register to vote and show up at the polls. If you don't vote...you will be ruled by those that DO vote.

Good Morning from #Vegas

Waking before the sun rises gives a view of Vegas many do not see. The dark sky begins to lighten and all is silent. Just for a few minutes of course before the tourists begin the maddened rush to find pleasure, food and alcohol.

Today there will be posts with music, art, and perhaps fiction. Also, there will be news posts and a big update on the novel. I can't wait to share the news and let readers know of the new timeline for release.

In addition to those posts - there will be football posts. The NFL season is upon us once again and I'll be there watching and posting, mostly of the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers. It should be an exciting year and I hope you'll all enjoy the ride.

Have a happy Sunday unless you have other plans.

From Vegas,

Stephen John Moran

The Morning News: The President Speaks on Iraq - Says We Don't Have a Plan Yet #Iraq #Security #President

It's troubling when the President says we don't have a strategy yet. Who will form this strategy? Is anyone on it? He says he will meet with the National Security Council. Here is to hoping someone has a plan for ISIS and IRAQ, because it's clear at this point the US lack of strategy is really hurting our efforts.

$SPY - Two Charts - Nearing Resistance #Stocks #Chart #Study

With two charts, one I put together and one from MarketWatch.com - has the SPY put in a short term top? There isn't enough evidence, but the broader market seems to be pushing against resistance. Will we slide back down the mountain?
Picture
One thing to note on the Market Watch Chart is the declining volume as SPY rises. That backs up that this might be a short term top.
